Son passati dieci anni dalla nascita di questo blog, dieci anni dal nostro giro del mondo in quindici mesi.
A volte mi chiedo il senso del mantenerlo vivo, ma poi trovo le mie motivazioni. Mantenere qui i nostri ricordi di viaggio, incontrare grazie a mondovisione altri viaggiatori come noi per potersi confrontare e stimolare altre famiglie a mettersi in viaggio perché “se non ci provi non lo saprai mai”.
Quest’anno ci mancava il Latino America, avevamo voglia di tornare con i bimbi in uno dei paesi più amati del nostro round the world: il Nicaragua!
Il fatto che molti ci abbiano chiesto “ma perché il Nicaragua” , “dove si trova esattamente” è uno dei motivi per cui noi ci siamo tornati :) Un paese sicuramente in cambiamento, ma ancora, in alcune zone, non attaccato dal turismo di massa.
La prima domanda che ci chiedono tutti ora è come si sono comportati i bimbi in viaggio, chi guardandoci come alieni, chi bramoso di prendere ispirazione. Il volo è stato molto lungo, un totale di 18/20 ore di viaggio con scali. I bimbi son stati bravissimi. Ormai le età più difficili sono superate, a 4 e 2 anni si intrattengono con i cartoni, disegnano, mangiano, dormono, corrono negli scali per sfogarsi un po’, e ripartono senza problemi.
Arriviamo a Managua alla sera e già ripartiamo il mattino dopo con un altro volo. Abbiamo deciso di dedicarci alla parte caraibica del Nicaragua che non avevamo visitato nel nostro round the world per motivi di budget.
Con un’altra ora di viaggio raggiungiamo le Corn Islands. Atterriamo su Big Corn e prendiamo subito una panga (motoscafo di legno) per raggiungere Little Corn, l’Isoletta come la chiamano da queste parti.
Saliti sulla barca scopriamo che la nostra è una delle prime imbarcazioni a partire da una settimana a quella parte. Un mese fa c’e’ stato un grosso incidente, una barca si è ribaltata causando la morte di tredici cittadini del Costa Rica e da allora i controlli sono molto rigidi e le imbarcazioni partono solo se le condizioni climatiche sono favorevoli.
E nonostante il clima fosse dalla nostra parte, il viaggio, per fortuna breve, è comunque parecchio burrascoso. La barca è piccola, le onde sono alte e tutte contro di noi, con una mano ci teniamo saldi alla panchetta di legno e con l’altra sorreggiamo Alice che urla di gioia e Pietro che si aggrappa a me come un koala. Arriviamo fradici e distrutti con Alice che chiede felice “quando possiamo rifare il viaggio!”.
Little Corn è un’isola priva di macchine, la si attraversa tutta con camminate di 30/40 minuti passando per sentieri in mezzo alla jungla. Noi dormiamo in dei semplici bungalow di legno colorati affacciati sul mare, posizione meravigliosa. La nostra zona è molto ventosa e il mare mosso, pertanto ogni mattina ci mettiamo in moto e attraversiamo la giungla per raggiungere altre zone dell’isola un po’ più riparate.
Febbraio è l’inizio della stagione secca, ma ancora ci sono temporali caraibici e il vento rende il mare piuttosto mosso, probabilmente a marzo ci si riesce a godere maggiormente le spiagge e la barriera corallina per gli appassionati di snorkelling.
Ci rimangono impresse le lunge camminate per questi sentieri pianeggianti che ti conducono da una parte all’altra dell’isoletta regalando scenari bellissimi e selvaggi quando di colpo il sentiero si apre davanti ad una radura creata per un campo da baseball o quando il terreno diventa erboso e morbido come un manto di muschio affacciato sul mare.
Non essendo il posto più adatto per fare nuotare Alice e Pietro e avendo già preteso molto da Alice insegnandole finalmente a camminare per qualche chilometro, decidiamo dopo tre giorni di ripartire e andare a cercare una spiaggia più adatta a loro sull’isola grande.
Big Corn è comunque un’isola molto piccola, la si attraversa in venti minuti di macchina, troviamo una spiaggia lunga abbastanza riparata e ci fermiamo un paio di giorni e i bambini iniziano ad ambientarsi giocando in un parco giochi sulla spiaggia, dando da mangiare a delle tartarughine e mangiando Gallo Pinto la tipica colazione locale a base di riso e fagioli. Mentre noi iniziamo la nostra dieta caraibica a base di pesce, gamberetti, aragoste e birra Toña :)
Come tutta la costa Caraibica del Centro America la lingua predominante non è lo spagnolo, ma il Creolo, un inglese “jamaicano” di difficile comprensione e la musica ricorrente, con nostro grande piacere, è il reggae pompato ad altissimo volume da qualsiasi abitazione. Abbiamo visto catapecchie di lamiera dove però non mancava mai una cassa degna di questo nome che diffondeva musica ad altissimo volume ovviamente rivolta verso l’esterno in palese gara con quella sparata dalle casse del vicino di casa. Una confusione sonora notevole a suon di reggae!
Le persone sono un mix di razze talvolta di una bellezza veramente unica. Molte donne mi chiedono di poter tenere Pietrino con loro (colpite dal ricciolino biondo) io mi sarei rapita la metà dei loro bellissimi bambini!
Le isole sono isolate e parecchio care, nonostante siano aree povere con un turismo ancora non da grande resort, per fortuna in tutta la costa il pesce non manca e la gente non muore di fame. Abbiamo visto canoe piene di gamberi e aragoste :)
Inizia a piacerci questo primo viaggio un po’ itinerante con i bambini e decidiamo di provare a raggiungere la nostra meta più ambita: i Cayos Perlas.
Prima di partire avevamo letto sulla nostra guida di queste minuscole isole sperdute non lontano da Little Corn raggiungibili o con due ore di barca in mare aperto (opzione scartata per evidenti motivi di sicurezza e mal di mare :)) oppure risalendo la costa con una panga attraversando una tranquilla e riparata laguna.
Prendiamo quindi un breve volo di 15 minuti che da Big Corn ci riporta sulla costa. Arrivati in aeroporto ci stupiamo quando al check in, una volta imbarcati i bagagli, chiedono a tutti e quattro di salire sulla bilancia per controllare il nostro peso.
Siamo preoccupati che non ci lascino imbarcare Pietrino! Una volta che avvistiamo l’aereo capiamo il perché di questi controlli: il velivolo ha un massimo di dieci posti! Io salgo e nel dubbio ingoio subito una pasticca antinausea, il viaggio invece, in compagnia dei piloti che siedono davanti a noi, si rivela tranquillissimo e ci regala una visione magnifica dall’alto dell’isola e dei colori del mare carabico.
La nostra guida parlava di un remoto villaggio, Laguna de Perlas, dove al massimo avremmo incontrato una decina di turisti al giorno. Mi sembrava impensabile, leggendo una frase del genere su una guida così mainstream, che il villaggio e i Cayos non fossero già stati invasi da masse di turisti, ma decidiamo comunque che poteva valer la pena visitare una zona così diversa del paese. Non rimaniamo delusi! Laguna de Perlas è un villaggetto caraibico affacciato su una laguna marrone. Non c’e’ nulla, nessun turista, pochissime macchine, centinaia di bambini che giocano per strada e noi ci ambientiamo benissimo!
Da questo villaggio partono le escursioni per raggiungere con qualche barca di pescatori i Cayos Perlas. Capiamo però che è meglio esser sicuri di aver il clima migliore prima di imbarcarci in questa avventura e restiamo quindi qualche giorno nel villaggio in attesa che cali il vento.
Il primo giorno facciamo un’escursione in panga per visitare i villaggi delle popolazioni che abitano lungo la laguna. Il viaggio è parecchio burrascoso anche se all’interno della laguna, ci rendiamo conto di quanto piccole siano queste imbarcazioni e ripariamo i bambini dalle onde con un telo di plastica nera sulla testa, loro come sempre non fanno una piega, anzi Pietro riesce pure ad addormentarsi :)
I villaggi sono molto affascinanti, poverissimi, ma coloratissimi con casette di legno dai colori sgargianti tipici di questa costa: fucsia, blu petrolio,verde, viola! Casette povere ma con dei bellissimi prati e i cavalli che corrono liberi circondati dal solito stuolo di bambini e dalla biancheria stesa ovunque perennemente a decorare le nostre fotografie.
Sostare qualche giorno a Laguna de Perlas è stato una delle esperienze più belle del viaggio. Anche se non c’era nessun attrazione turistica particolare, i bambini in pochi giorni si sono ambientati giocando felici, chiacchierando con il pappagallo della nostra guest house e, nonostante le difficoltà linguistiche, con i bimbi del villaggio.
Un pomeriggio oziamo guardando la partita di baseball locale (per la cronaca durata dalle 15.00 alle 22.00 a causa di un temporale che ha allagato il campo, successivamente asciugato a mano da un povero volontario munito di straccio), un altro giorno visitiamo un poverissimo villaggio vicino e ammiriamo Pietro e Alice e la loro capacità di giocare con qualsiasi bambino e di diventare neri dalla testa ai piedi in pochissimo tempo :)
E finalmente arriva il giorno della partenza verso i Cayos. L’escursione è parecchio cara per via del costo della benzina, ma per fortuna riusciamo a trovare altri tre turisti disposti a dividere il costo con noi e anche loro intenzionati a trascorrere almeno una notte sull’isola.
La storia dei Cayos è quantomeno affascinante e bizzarra. Una decina di anni fa un “affarista” di origine greche con la complicità di un avvocato locale acquista cinque isole ad un prezzo ridicolo e le rimette in vendita su internet a prezzi decisametne maggiorati. Le isole vengono quindi acquistate da un neozelandese, da una signora inglese e da altri imprenditori che iniziano a costruire delle abitazioni.
A quel punto la comunità locale si accorge di quello che sta succedendo alle loro isole e rivendica la proprietà riuscendo ad impedire ulteriori costruzioni.
Al momento la situazione ancora non è chiara, e qualche isola si può trovare in vendita in rete al prezzo di 500.000 dollari …ma noi ci godiamo la possibilità di poterne visitare una e, con la complicità del custode dell’isola che vive lì con la sua famiglia e del pescatore che ci accompagna, di dormire una notte in delle semplici capanne che meriterebbero una sistemata, ma che per noi vanno più che bene.
I Cayos sono incredibili, superata la laguna l’acqua all’improvviso diventa turchese e all’orizzonte spuntano dei minuscoli atolli con al centro una massa di palme circondate da spiagge di sabbia bianca.
La nostra isola è minuscola, la si attraversa in trenta secondi da parte a parte: è perfetta! Raccogliamo conchiglie e coralli, ci arrampichiamo sulle palme, oziamo al sole, facciamo un falò la notte al chiaro della luna piena, dormiamo cullati dal rumore del mare sotto la nostra finestra, felici di esser riusciti a raggiungere un posto che non sappiamo per quanto tempo sarà ancora così accessibile per noi.
Gli ultimi giorni salutiamo la costa caraibica e decidiamo di raggiungere Managua via terra affrontando dodici ore di viaggio sui locali chicken bus, i vecchi scuolabus americani splendidamente decorati.
Durante il viaggio capiamo il perché Laguna de Perlas sia ancora un villaggio così poco turistico, durante le prime cinque ore di strada attraversiamo solo campi di banane e olio di palma, nessun segno di centri abitati.
Nuovamente ci stupiamo della resistenza dei bimbi. Dodici ore di viaggio passano in tranquillità tra un pisolino, una sosta per il pranzo, i giochi con altre bimbe sul bus, mentre in città i capricci per noia sono molto frequenti, qui si adattano ad un ritmo più rilassato, si adeguano a non aver cartoni e mille giochi a disposizione e si godono l’avventura in ogni spostamento.
Gli ultimi giorni prima di partire ritorniamo nella bellissima Granada visitata anni fa. Una città coloniale splendidamente tenuta, ritorniamo con gioia a parlare principalmente spagnolo, ci concediamo un alberghetto con piscina per ringraziare i bimbi della loro pazienza e rinfrescarci dalla calura cittadina, facciamo il giro della città in carrozza e visitiamo il mercato centrale. Un tuffo in mille ricordi di mercati e spese fatte per cucinare le nostre cene quando eravamo giovani e in due :)
Il bilancio finale è molto positivo. Non abbiamo trovato come gli altri anni in Thailandia un mare molto adatto ai bimbi e per questo ci siamo mossi maggiormente. Siamo stati felici di capire che gli spostamenti sono fattibilissimi, l’importante è viaggiare con un bagaglio il più leggero possibile (noi avevamo uno zaino a testa leggero e un marsupio per Pietro, ma nessun passeggino) e lasciare il tempo ai bambini e a noi di ambientarsi senza aver troppa fretta.
Siamo stati molto felici di tornare a viaggiare in un paese dove potevamo parlare spagnolo, l’accoglienza è stata sempre incredibile, un calore che ci mancava, ci son state persone che ci hanno accolto come una famiglia (Pietro ha trovato pure un signore che ha chiamato “nonno” per giorni).
E ora sappiamo che possiamo pian piano iniziare a sognare altri piccoli viaggi itineranti, il Latino America è grande e anche ritornare in posti già visti con Alice e Pietro è come riviverli nuovamente da altre prospettive.
