Dopo il deserto di Real de Catorce e’ iniziata la lunga tirata verso nord. Molte persone ci hanno chiesto com’e’ viaggiare in pulman in questi paesi, io solitamente rispondo che, anche se pare inverosimile, si viaggia molto meglio che in Italia. Per arrivare da Real de Catorce a Tijuana e’ bastato andare di stazione in stazione, a qualsiasi ora del giorno o della notte c’era un pulman, di lusso, diretto a nord. Massimo tempo di attesa per le varie coincidenze: 15 minuti.
Dopo tirate da 30 ore al giorno, dopo aver fatto una sosta in montagna a goderci i panorami del canyon della Barranca del Cobre, dopo innumerevoli controlli anti-droga, infiniti cactus, chilometri di barriere di lamiera nel deserto ustionante che separa il confine con gli Stati Uniti, siamo arrivati nella famigerata Tijuana. E non ci e’ piaciuta. La si puo’ descrivere con poche parole: un bordello per Gringos! E cosi’ dopo una notte a Tijuana abbiamo salutato definitivamente il LatinoAmerica e, passando dalla frontiera di San Ysidro (per fortuna a piedi perche’ in auto avremmo fatto chilometri infiniti di code), senza particolari controlli, siamo entrati negli States.
Giusto per non perdere l’abitudine siamo subito saliti su un pullman notturno diretto alla nostra citta’ dei sogni: San Francisco! Passato lo shock della notte insonne dopo aver scoperto che i pullman in America sono decisamente scadenti, abbiamo raggiunto finalmente il paese dei balocchi.
Una citta’ con meno abitanti di Torino, strade che salgono e scendono ripidamente dalla collina, zero traffico, piste ciclabili ovunque (puoi caricarti la bici anche su bus e metro), casette carinissime piene di finestre sporgenti e dei ragazzi fantastici che ci ospitano e ci fanno sentire veramente a casa. La definirei una citta’ di gente presa bene, lo si respira nell’aria, nei mille ristoranti e caffe’ sempre affollati e nei locali pieni di ragazzi qualsiasi sera della settimana. E poi si cammina per le strade e capita di entrare in un enorme negozio con una mela sulla facciata e di scoprire che solo poche ore prima Steve Jobs era li’ a presentare il nuovo iPod touch (genialissimo!) o di camminare sotto la Zoetrope, la casa di produzione di Coppola. Di sbirciare libri nella bellissima libreria City lights di Ferlinghetti, per poi bere una birra nel locale di fronte, il caffe’ Vesuvio ed immaginarsi Kerouac seduto al bancone con il bicchiere in mano. Di camminare sotto la fabbrica della Levi’s, di sfogliare i vari free-press per trovare tutti, ma proprio tutti, i gruppi che vi possono venire in mente, che suoneranno qui in citta’ nei prossimi giorni. Questa sera per esempio la domanda e’: tra De La Soul, Devendra Banhart e Underworld voi cosa scegliereste? (Bota la domanda non e’ per te, sappiamo tutti la tua risposta :-))
Qualche lato negativo ovviamente c’e’ anche nel paese dei balocchi, qui non esistono ghetti, ma come tutte le citta’ americane le strade sono piene di barboni, tossici, schizofrenici e disadattati, per fortuna innoqui. La gente ci convive e ogni tanto lascia qualche spicciolo.
Ora vi salutiamo, dobbiamo andare a visitare il quartiere dove e’ nata la Summer of Love, festeggiata giusto lo scorso weekend per il quarantesimo anniversario con un gran happening al Golden Gate Park.

per quanto riguarda i bus devo dire che la “leggendaria” greyhound che ho provato solo quest’estate fa acqua da tutte le parti: ritardi anche di tre ore come se niente fosse (PER UN BUS, non un treno o un aereo!!!) e stazioni come accampamenti di terzo mondo… ma devo dire che le suddette sono ben presidiate dalla polizia in genere e soprattutto causa dilagante obesità statunitense i posti a sedere sono davvero comodissimi rispetto ai pulman euopei (e se lo dico IO potete credermi ehehehe)

p.s.: davvero fa meno abitanti di Torino SanFrancisco!?!?!?!?!??! E dire che ci siam oanche stati assieme e io me la ricordo come una grossa metropoli, anche se non paragonabile minimamente a L.A.!!!!
