Visioni sommerse
Dopo esserci ripresi dalla nostra piccola disavventura, ci siamo goduti gli ultimi giorni nello splendido Nicaragua visitando le due citta’ coloniali di Granada e Leon, storicamente da sempre antagoniste nella storia della politica nicaraguense (Leon citta’ sandinista e Granada conservatrice).
E a Leon, visto il caldo che regnava in citta’, abbiamo aprofittato per fare una tappa sull’oceano pacifico e provare anche noi a fare surf. Da subito ci siamo resi conto del perche’ dei fisici prestanti dei surfisti che vedevamo in giro. E’ faticosissimo!! Niente a che vedere con la facilita’ con cui si scende su una bella distesa di neve, ma l’adrenalina di cavalcare la prima onda, riuscire a restare in piedi e sentirsi padrone dell’oceano (va beh, forse sto un po’ esagerando erano solo onde piccoline verso la riva, ma la sensazione comunque e’ stata fortissima) e’ incredibile.
Sicuramente ci manca ancora tanta, tanta pratica, ma siamo comunque contenti e soddisfatti di avere potuto almeno “sentire” cosa vuol dire planare su un’onda e volare verso riva.
Da Leon abbiamo fatto una lunga tirata in Honduras fino alle isole dei caraibi, le Bay Island, famose per essere uno dei posti pìu’ economici al mondo dove prendere il patentino da sub in uno scenario spettacolare: la seconda barriera corallina piu’ grande al mondo.
Sono contenta di poter scrivere che oggi siamo entrambi “patentati” con il nostro brevetto per immersioni ricreative fino a 18 metri.
Personalmente e’ stata una grossa sfida, superare alcune delle mie piccole fobie (la barca, la claustrofobia, gli squali balena che popolano l’isola…) e ritrovarsi nel giro di tre giorni in grado di potersi immergere tranquillamente a osservare le visioni sommerse.
Abbiamo avuto la fortuna, nelle nostre prime immersioni, di poter nuotare con una bella tartaruga di mare, di ammirare l’eleganza di una razza e di stupirci nell’osservare pesci mai visti e coralli coloratissimi. La sensazione di nuotare per la prima volta in profondita’ non e’ facile da descrivere, e’ proprio la scoperta di un altro mondo. I pesci non scappano impauriti, ma nuotano pacificamente intorno a te. E’ rilassante, sei tu, da solo, nella quiete delle profondita’ a giocare a fluttuare in mezzo ai coralli e a scoprire i pesci nascosti in mezzo a quelle che sembrano delle vere e proprie montagne sommerse.
Inoltre, fare questo corso e’ stato un po’ come fare un corso di lingue visto che abbiamo studiato (eh si’ perche’ siamo anche dovuti tornare sui libri!!) un libro in italiano, preso lezioni in spagnolo dal nostro mitico insegnante messicano Esteban da noi soprannominato Cino (giudicate voi la somiglianza dalle foto) e dato l’esame finale in inglese.
E ora che siamo patentati ci attende la barriera corallina del Belize! Ma prima ancora una tappa in Honduras, le rovine Maya di Copan, le prime di una lunga serie…
A Copan abbiamo sperimentato quello che potrebbe succederci nell’alta stagione di agosto. Il paesino vicino alle rovine aveva ogni singolo albergo/ostello esaurito per via di alcune scolaresche in gita, ma per fortuna, grazie alla nostra tenda e ad un disponibilissimo albergatore siamo riusciti ad arrangiarci nel garage del suo ostello.
Vista la sistemazione non proprio pratica al mattino ci siamo svegliati molto presto e abbiamo avuto la fortuna di poter entrare alle rovine per primi evitando cosi’ l’arrivo dei rumorosi studenti.
Per ammirare al meglio la magnificenza dei siti maya bisognerebbe sempre aver la possibilita’ di visitarli con la quiete e l’atmosfera del primo mattino. Il silenzio e la calma che regnava nel sito ci hanno fatto aprezzare al meglio Copan. Sappiamo gia’ cosa ci attendera’ visitando siti maggiori come Tikal, essendoci andati tre anni fa, ma Copan e’ comunque sicuramente affascinante per le sue stele e la scala dei geroglifici che gli studiosi stanno tentando di interpretare per ricostruire la storia della grande dinastia Maya.
Ora siamo in transito in Guatemala e domani ci dirigiamo verso i cayos del Belize dove speriamo di poter sfruttare il nostro nuovo brevetto.
